Much Older Work
These paintings are samples of work from more than 10 years ago and are evidence of where I have come from, not necessary of where I will go in the future. I was born in a semi-rural strip mall of a town in North Carolina and it was there that I grew up. There was very little in the way of art where I lived. I found my way to painting out of frustration and despair, really as a therapy at the beginning. I didn’t know anything about art theory and not much more about art history.
Some of these exercises in painting were about understanding how to draw, or how to create a narrative, but mostly painting has been a contemplation of the medium of paint, it’s fluidity and eventual permanence. For me, art has always been personal.
