The painting is called Anxiety Buddha and depicts the all-encompassing presence of media outputs, surveillance, and data manipulation creating a fog of war atmosphere on the contemplative mind.
I started this medium-sized oil painting on canvas with wooden stretcher bars last year and when I went to work at the Harry Potter museum in Toshimaen, Tokyo, the painting went on hold. The process here was to first make random marks emotively to search out a basic composition. The marks are setting up complications. So it is an “alchemical” work from complications in the sense that I faithfully continue in the dark, anticipating an eventual resolution of the composition rather than defining the composition by force, at least this is the approach I take in the majority of my work.

This medium-sized oil painting on canvas is currently still wet as of July 11, 2023. The canvas is synthetic, kept from a window display I made for a fashion company’s Harajuku window a number of years back.
